Volcanic DELTA 2011 - Eighth Southern Hemisphere Conference on the Teaching and Learning of Undergraduate Mathematics and Statistics
Konferenz: Eighth Southern Hemisphere Conference on the Teaching and Learning of Undergraduate Mathematics and Statistics (Volcanic Delta 2011).
Rotorua, Neuseeland.
Internet: Eighth Southern Hemisphere Conference on the Teaching and Learning of Undergraduate Mathematics and Statistics
Termin: 27.11.20111 - 02.12.2011 {{{monat}}} 2011
Kurzbeschreibung
The 2011 conference will be held on the edge of Lake Rotorua , amongst the boiling mud-pools and geysers in the internationally acclaimed geothermal wonderland of Rotorua, New Zealand. Delta '11 builds on the knowledge and collegial networks established in previous Delta conferences, a series of biennial southern hemisphere symposia that began in Brisbane in 1997. Delta attracts a wide international audience of research mathematicians and educators committed to improving undergraduate mathematics and statistics education.
The 2011 conference will commence with a welcome reception and opening address on Sunday 27 November, and finish 5 days later with a plenary address before closing around lunchtime on Friday 2nd December. Wednesday 30 November is reserved for excursions, which will explore the scenic thermal wonders of Rotorua. Delta '11 is jointly organised by the Departments of Mathematics, Engineering Science and Statistics at The University of Auckland; and the International Delta Steering Committee.
Themen
The theme of the conference is: "Te Ara Mokoroa", a Maori phrase which describes “The Long Abiding Path of Knowledge”. Thus, we want to emphasise the mathematical path students take between school and university, both in bridging courses & adult education, through to teacher training, as well as the links between the different domains of the mathematical sciences: mathematics, statistics and engineering. We are interested in hearing any of a wide range of topics on the teaching of mathematics and statistics at university level. In the past, for example, we have had papers on technology (computers, graphics calculators, CAS), bridging courses & the transition from school to university, large first year classes, modelling, teacher training, and the teaching of specific topics (e.g. analysis, algebra).
