Konferenz: FAMA - Family Math for adult learners international conference - Family and communities in and out of the classroom: ways to improve mathematics' achievement (FAMA 2011). Barcelona, Spanien. Internet: FAMA - Family Math for adult learners international conference - Family and communities in and out of the classroom: ways to improve mathematics' achievement

Termin: 23. Juli 2011

Kurzbeschreibung

The aim of this conference is to discuss how the families and other members of the community get involved in teaching and learning mathematics, in and out of the classroom. We know that there are actions in several places around the world that are providing successful practices, such as the mathematics workshops conducted in USA, the Learning Communities in Spain, the Parent Night experiences in Sweden, etc. This conference seeks to be a meeting point to share experiences and actions, and reflect from the point of view of practitioners, researchers, teachers, families and other agents involved in the teaching and learning of mathematics.

Themen

  • (1) Parents as mathematical facilitators: How can be parents and other family members involved in mathematics? What are their concerns, difficulties? What does it mean for them to go back to learn mathematics?
  • (2) Bridging school and home: How can we do it? What ways teachers and family members use to share their work in helping children learn math?
  • (3) Challenges of mathematics learning for parents and teachers: what are the new features that parents and teachers should deal with? What can we gain from learning mathematics in and out of the classroom environment?
