ZDM ist eine der ältesten Zeitschriften zur Mathematikdidaktik. In der Zeitschrift werden aktuelle Forschungsthemen der Mathematikdidaktik dargestellt und diskutiert. Außerdem dient es als Forum für kritische Analysen.

All Artikel der sechs jährlichen Ausgaben werden grundsätzlich nur auf Einladung veröffentlicht. Alle Artikel werden sowohl durch das Editorial Board als auch von externen eingeladenen Gutachtern begutachtet.

Die Zeitschrift richtet sich an Leserinnen und Leser in der ganzen Welt, die an aktuellen Entwicklungen der Mathematikdidaktik interessiert sind.
